A team player sees the bigger picture and will do what is right for the team.
A team player will put themselves on the line when required. When they see a need they will fill it.
A team player provides value by any means necessary. If that means being put in a pressure situation or cheering from the sideline.
A team player is always supportive of their team members.
A team player is always ready. They take care of themselves first so they can do their job to the fullest.
One of the greatest things you can do is make other people around you better. This can be done in a couple different ways. The first and most important way is to be 100% yourself. When you are yourself then you give other people permission to be themselves. Don’t hold back and give it all you got. Effort is contagious so lead by example. The second thing you can do to make other people better is to have empathy. Listen to people and see their point of view. Change your perspective so you have a better understanding of what they are going through.
When your success equals other people’s success then these people will do everything they can to help you. You must let them know how important it is for them to succeed. You are there to help them anyway you can. In making them better they will offer to make you better.
Teams need leaders to make decisions. It must be clear who the leader of the team is or there will be no cohesion. The leader will do things that no one else wants to do and put the teams interests ahead of their own. The leader puts people in situations to succeed. They put people in the right place where people’s strengths are accentuated. There is no one style of leadership but the goal of leaders is to get results.
How we look at strengths and weaknesses can make all the difference. When looking for people to join your team you should focus on strengths and not weaknesses. Look for someone who can excel at what you looking for even though they may have many glaring weaknesses. You need to know exactly where your own weaknesses are and this is what you should be looking for in other people. Surround yourself with people who are better than you.
You are only as strong as your team.
Everyone must know their roles and responsibilities. Also, you must know everyone else’s roles and responsibilities. Knowing what the other members roles allows you to help them even more. The easier it is for other people the easier it will be for you. If you do not know everyone else’s roles just ask. Do not be scared to ask questions. There is no personal success or failure. If you fail then the whole team fails.
The goal is bigger than you so always do whats best for the team and project!
