Blog #250 – The Formula for Greatness

Greatness is consistency over a long period of time.

In Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, Angela Duckworth describes success as:

    Talent * Effort = Skill ==========> Skill * Effort = Success/Greatness

If you notice EFFORT counts twice as you are trying to reach the pinnacle of success. Through Effort (practice and repetition) you will get better and the reward will get greater.

  • Blog #247 – Be in the driver seat of your emotions.

Blog #247 – Be in the driver seat of your emotions.

We often hear that emotions are like a roller coaster and we are just along for the ride.

I would say that emotions are more like driving a car. You do not have control of the road but you have control over the car. You are able to steer and avoid potholes or you are also available to put the car on autopilot like the rollercoaster.

Once you take control and responsibility of yourself. You are free to travel on your favorite roads and avoid your least favorite.

If you see a fork in the road choose the path to happiness.

Blog #246 – Are you giving yourself opportunities to win?

Determine your standards for what is acceptable.

I am harder on myself than anyone else. This lets me handle criticism well but is not good for self acceptance.

Sometimes the standards we set for ourselves our unachievable. We can have huge enormous goals but we also have to have micro goals. These micro goals give pleasure and momentum through small wins. Eventual enough small wins add up to big results.

Blog #245 – Know your why

The actions you take always have a motivation behind them. It is your job to know yourself well enough to know why you do the things that you do.

Every little thing that you do has a reason behind it and too many times the reason is, “That’s the way it’s always been done.” or “That’s the way I was taught.”

Be curious in finding out your true motivations and you may take different actions and be more fulfilled.

Blog #244 – Finding Meaning and Purpose in what you do.

The beauty of life is that meaning and purpose are not given to you. You have to find them.

It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.

    Epictetus

We can not always control the results of what happens but we can control our actions and our reactions to the results.

If you do not know why you are doing something then re-evaluate and find your motivation.
