Anything you want to do more or less of needs to be measured. If you want to be healthier track your food and calories. Look at how many times you goto the gym in a week, a month and a year. Only from these numbers can you track the changes you want to make.

This is done for us in financials. We can look at our bank account and see how much money we have.

In your relationships track how many dates and conversations you’ve had with that person.

Then based off whether you want more or less you can increase or decrease these numbers. Every week my phone tells me how much time I’ve spent on it. This is one thing I use in my life to manage my screen time.

There is nothing quiet like the feeling of knowing that right now at this moment you are better than you were a year ago, a month ago or even better a day ago. Progress is one thing that makes me happy. Progress lets me know I am doing some things right. Even the smallest amount of progress can lead to huge amount of happiness. The only way to measure progress is to measure yourself. Have points of measurement to keep up with. One of the most common is money. How much are you making and saving? Another one specifically for a blogger is how often you are posting? How much traffic is your website getting? There are many ways to measure but the most important is what makes you the happiest.

How do you know if your getting better?

What are your markers for success?

You must have a system in place to get results. You must measure these results over time. If you are just starting then showing up is the best result to measure. Like did I show up and write a blog. Did I show up and practice? Did I show up and write a page?

What is this minimum necessary result of success?

This is similar to the Jerry Seinfeld method. He said if you want to be a better comedian then everyday you write a joke mark your calendar with an X and build the longest streak you can.

If you want to make progress in anything there has to be metrics.

Find a system that works for you that highlights what you with to make progress on.

You will never know if something is working or not unless you have data to back it up.

Give yourself a grade everyday to see how you did. How can you do better? What went right? What went wrong?

Seeing results will motivate you to stay focused and keep pushing.

Experiment with different systems and find out what works for you.
