When looking at other people you can look at what to do and what not to do. What about them do you like and what do you not like? Adopt or avoid these traits in yourself. In failure you can look at what went wrong and how you can make it better. In success you can look at what went right and replicate it. See things as they are and see how you can improve in every situation.
