It is easy to reminisce in the past because it is tangible and has happened. It is easy for the mind to look back at the past. The past is full of many memories about relationships, family, hardships, friendships, and other moments. Think back at all the moments and if you made another decisions your life would be completely different now. I think of many moments and say, “What if I…” We all have many of these “What if” moments. It is easy to know what we would do now in these moments looking back.
It is hard for the mind to look at the future. The future hasn’t happened yet so the mind has to be extremely creative and make up a future. If you want to limit these what if moments then you have to know where you are going so you can make the right decisions in the transitional moments. This requires you to stop, take a moment and write out your plans for the future in every aspect of your life.
If you are depressed,
you are living in the past.
If you are anxious,
you are living in the future.
If you are at peace,
you are living in the present.
